I've been about 5 times over the years when I was much younger I've had a few friends that have got caught up in fights one getting stabbed in the leg another having his nose broken by some drunk woman with a right hook like Tyson. On the whole it's alright if you stay close to the police and don't stand out as an easy target. It's policed much better these days than when I used to go.

Who does cover the cost, is it purely the tax payers/council?
Plus who cares, as regardless of what you think of it personally, it probably brings a lot of wedge in to the local community (shops) and people like it.
Some cunts hate the thought of other people enjoying themselves and so what if it's out of our taxes, as I'm sure they'll be an event also out of our taxes that those who don't go will make the most of.

Heard Nick Ferrari doing his miserable old grumpy Cunt Impression about the carnival, he obviously hates any money being spent on minorities and it came across clearly, even those who phoned in who were happy about the Carnival and getting in the spirit of it he practically soured their every word by talking about the huge expense to Tax payers and sexual assaults muggings and crimes etc.
